With the holidays fast approaching, you might be looking for a good present to buy your kids or young relatives. Rather than the usual toys, games, clothes and gift cards; why not consider investing in their future with a Florida Prepaid College Savings Plan?

Yeah, I know that kids can be impatient and these types of presents do not satisfy their immediate need want for stuff, but when they get older, they will thank you for believing in them. They will also thank you for not leaving them drowning in student loan debt. Florida Prepaid’s Open Enrollment period is currently open through Feb. 28, 2017. The enrollment process is quick, so you still have time to register before Christmas. Plus, if this gift is for another relative, you won’t have to think about what present to give them as this one will last until they go to college.

These prepaid plans lock in the tuition rates of today, so there is no worry of inflation when it comes to Florida schools. The money is accessible to the student, even if they get scholarships or go to school in another state. Florida Prepaid offers several plan options to suit the recipients needs: 1-Year Florida University Plan, 2-Year Florida College Plan, 4-Year Florida College Plan, 2+2 Florida College Plan, and the 4-Year Florida University Plan. My personal favorite is the 1-Year Florida University Plan.

  • The 1-Year Florida University Plan is their newest offering and provides a more affordable way to save for State University credit hours.
  • You can purchase one year, or 30 credit hours, at a time according to your budget and timeline, without feeling the pressure of having to buy all four years at once.
  • The plan also allows multiple purchasers to buy a plan for the same child. So now you can team up with other family members to help pay for your child’s or young relative’s higher education. For example, let Grandma and Grandpa buy one year and you purchase another. A child can have up to four 1-Year Florida University Plans.

There’s an interactive map in their learning center, where you can learn more about this plan HERE! You can find answers to some of your other questions HERE.
