Happy Zoo Year’s Eve!
Disney’s celebrating with this brand new trailer for ZOOTOPIA, which features an all-new original song “Try Everything.” It’s written by singer-songwriter Sia and songwriting duo Stargate. Sia is most associated with Rihanna’s music, but the new movie single is being performed by Grammy®-winning international superstar Shakira. It will be available everywhere on 1/8 (my birthday). Revered worldwide by herds of fans, Shakira voices Zootopia’s biggest pop star Gazelle who is a socially conscious celebrity with equal parts talent and heart. Pay close attention to the song in the background playing as you watch the trailer below.
ZOOTOPIA Trailer #2
This trailer delves a bit more into Judy Hopps backstory, so you can get some more insight as to what this movie is all about. As an adult watching it, I could see that we’re clearly in for some entertainment that’s suited for the whole family. I also love the inspirational side of the story, especially for girls and women. The song suits it well. The story speaks to me because #MyMister’s female cousin is a sergeant in the NYPD, and I myself went to John Jay School for Criminal Justice, interned with Suffolk County PD and the NYPD attempted to recruit me after I scored high marks on their test. My father was in law enforcement most of my life, so I know the concept of wanting to prove yourself and needing to do it in a non-traditional female role.
Another area that spoke to me was when they brought in “Mr. Big” the arctic shrew (a mammal that could be mistaken for a mole), which ironically was the gangster archetype. Modeled after the Godfather and Scarface, I couldn’t help but be fascinated. (Scarface is my favorite movie of all time). A little known fact about me was that I was enthralled by studying gangsters in college, taking gangsters in lit and gangsters in film classes, and even serving as a Teaching Assistant for the lit class afterward. Much of the discussion was the gangster archetype being present in stories for thousands of years, before the concept of the mafia or la cosa nostra existed. I also was amused by how he addresses his daughter about having to “ice” someone during her wedding day.
Film Synopsis provided by Disney
The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together—a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when rookie Officer Judy Hopps (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin) arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde (voice of Jason Bateman), to solve the mystery. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia,” a comedy-adventure directed by Byron Howard (“Tangled,” “Bolt”) and Rich Moore (“Wreck-It Ralph,” “The Simpsons”) and co-directed by Jared Bush (“Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero”), opens in theaters on March 4, 2016.
