We are excited to announce that the Florida Prepaid College Savings Plan open enrollment period is here! This is the one time each year in which you can sign up for one of five plans. The open enrollment period began on October 15th and will run through February 28th, 2018.
You might recall that I have been a Florida Prepaid Mama’Bassador for several years now. I did not have a college savings plan when I went to school. In fact, I was approved as legally independent of my parents, just so I could get additional loans needed to cover my expenses, even with grants & scholarships to help reduce the total. 15 years later and I still have almost $60K in student loan debt. I will have this debt for at least another 15 years. I’d hate for this to happen to any of our kids.
One of my favorite plans is the 1-Year plan. Starting at less than $50 month, this is the only plan that allows you to save for your child’s post-secondary education one year at a time. It’s perfect for families who may be working with a fixed income or small budgets. Families can take on more years as their income increases. Also, individual family members can split up the years to help put your child through college. Each plan covers the tuition, tuition differential fee and other specified fees at a State University for 30 of the 120 credit hours needed for a bachelor’s degree. For the 2017-2018, this plan is $46.61 monthly or $7,373.92 as a lump-sum payment. The amount covered by this plan can also be applied for schools nationwide, in case you decide to move and/ or your child seeks to attend a different college or university. There are five (5) plans you can choose from, depending on what suits your family best. To learn more about this plan, and the other options, visit: MyFloridaPrepaid.com And if you decide to sign-up for a plan, use my code: Social1718 to receive $25 off the application fee (normally $50).
