I connected with Hasbro recently at the Type A Parent Conference, as they were focusing on their Be Fearless Be Kind philanthropic initiative. They had my kids participate in creating a Kindness Wall while at Kid Con, and then they learned of my own social good background.
Because they knew I have a soft spot for social good projects, they recently contacted me to tell me about their Joy Maker Challenge. What’s this challenge, you might ask? Well, for every child or teen who volunteers throughout the Joy Maker Challenge from November 21st—December 23rd, Hasbro will donate a toy or game to Toys for Tots, up to 1 million dollars’ worth. You just have to go to the site and submit your project. You might even win a grant to help with your project too!
You might have heard, I am a Cub Scout Den Leader and my daughter is in Girl Scouts, so we have been heavily involved with giving this holiday season. This challenge was perfect for us, as we really do love helping others!
Through the Cub Scouts, we went door to door collecting food for the poor. Then, we helped to create over 50 bags of toiletries and hygiene products for the homeless. And last weekend, we helped clean out the recycling bins and plant a flower bed at my son’s school.
My daughter’s troop collected pet supplies and we donated them to a local pet shelter, and then they “adopted” some families in need of toys for Christmas. When Hasbro heard of all of our efforts, they told me they would be sending me a Joy Maker Challenge Kit, containing 20 toys to donate to these families. (I must admit that a couple more toys came in the box, which was so cool because we were able to donate to even more kids). They also sent us some shirts to wear while we were out and about, playing Santa’s Elves.
Give One, Keep One Giveaway
You know what’s even cooler? You can get a chance to play Santa’s Elf too! One of my lucky readers will receive their own Joy Maker Challenge Kit to donate to children in need. But, that’s not all….. This reader will also receive a Joy Maker Challenge Kit to KEEP for themselves!!!! I love being able to share the love!

a Rafflecopter giveaway
Disclosure: This is a donated promotion. I did not receive any money or toys for sharing this social good project. There were some t-shirts for us, as we went out to spread the good cheer, but this in no way affected my willingness to participate.
I would donate all the toys to the Women and Children’s shelter, part of the Miami Rescue Mission. We donate to them each year! So many homeless families there without a pot to piss in. All children should be able to feel the joy of the holidays.
That would be awesome Erica!
I would donate the second pair of toys to the childrens cancer hospital here in phoenix AZ.
That would be awesome Rachel!
Upward bound house in California which helps homeless families get housing and get back on their feet.
Those kinds of programs are so important Elisa. Thanks for supporting.
I would love to donate to a children’s hospital or toys for tots.no one should ever have to go without!
Absolutely Amber! I love that Hasbro is doing this for kids!
If I won I would donate it to the local Children’s Home here in my town! It’s about 10 minutes up the road from me. Last year I called up there to find out about donating toys to them and they said they have a lot of older children that live there so Hasbro toys would be great for them! Thank you for the chance and Merry Christmas!
Very nice Angela!
I was checking out this place,http://volunteer.thetrustees.org/HOC__Volunteer_Opportunity_Details_Page?id=a0Co000000AFkD7EAL and thinks its a great place to not only volunteer but to donate.

What does the trustees organization do Dotty?
I’d give the extra toy to The United Way of Cleveland-Bolivar County, MS.
Very cool Dana! It is actually a box of 20 toys!
We donate to our local toy drive for St Vincent De Paul. There were over 600 famillies served this year. The need is always growing it seems this would be a blessing and ALL of the toys would go to them. I enter contests all year to be able to donate as much as possible.
I would donate to our residents in need program through our school and Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
Aww, that would be awesome Dawn!
I would donate these toys to the Salvation Army. They help out so many families all year round but especially this time of year.
Nancy, that would be nice of you.
The Salvation Army! Or toys for tots..thanks you for this wonderful chance to help!
You’re welcome Tracy! I love paying it forward.
Ok I have to explain here…back in March this year my hubby was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and part of the treatment was doing the Chemo Treatments but thankfully no radiation. We got to know quite well the staff and some of the other patients at the Cancer Center in Bend,OR and on one treatment day my hubby asked the head nurse if she had dealings with children. She did say they had a couple of kids that came once a week and one that had to come twice a week. With this information given to us I am going to tell you right here and now that the second kit would be donated to the Cancer Center to give to those kids! It’s bad enough for an adult to go through Chemo but it tore us up to actually be told that there are kids being treated for Cancer..yes I see it on TV all the time but it really struck home when we were told face to face.
That is really sweet Terry!
I would give them to The City Union Mission, its a homeless shelter here in Kansas City and they always have kids in the shelter. They can always use donations.
Thanks for entering Vikki!
