Tri-Rail returns with youth singing competition as part of 5th annual “Rail Fun Day”

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (August 30, 2012) – Tri-Rail invites talented kids in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties to show off their singing skills and audition for “South Florida’s Kids Got Talent.” Kids ages 5-17 will compete for a chance to perform at Tri-Rail’s annual “Rail Fun Day” community celebration, where one act will be awarded a $500 grand prize.  Auditions will be held on Sat., Sept. 29 at SFRTA/Tri-Rail’s Administrative Offices located at 800 NW 33rd Street in Pompano Beach.

“Tri-Rail is pleased to bring back the South Florida’s Kids Got Talent competition following the success of last year’s first-ever event,” said Bonnie Arnold, public information officer of SFRTA/Tri-Rail.  “As the region’s premier connection to South Florida, Tri-Rail is excited to showcase the incredible and undiscovered talent of the kids in our community.”

Last year’s South Florida’s Kids Got Talent brought together several talented acts all on one stage.  With performances ranging from Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” to classics such as Linda Eder’s “Vienna,” it was Shelsie Mattaranz of Pembroke Pines who was crowned the winner of the competition with her rendition of Beyonce’s “Listen” from the “Dreamgirls” soundtrack.

The competition is open to solo or group singers who are South Florida residents between the ages of 5-17.  Each act will have a 4-minute opportunity to perform at the auditions.  A panel of judges will select the acts that will compete in the final competition, which is scheduled for Nov. 3 during Tri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day.”  Only one act will be selected to win the $500 grand prize.

Tri-Rail’s “Rail Fun Day” is an annual family-friendly community celebration for the train’s loyal riders.  Over the past four years, the event has welcomed nearly 10,000 families to enjoy a FREE fun-filled afternoon of arts and crafts activities, games, giveaways and live entertainment, while educating families about the value of riding Tri-Rail to enjoy all that South Florida has to offer.
