I am sharing this on behalf of a Bloggin’ Mamas Social Good Campaign. Bloggin’ Mamas and Element Associates are donating a toy to a child in foster care for every blog post sharing this information, up to 25.
Today, 402,000 children are in the foster care system in the United States. Nearly 102,000 children (under 18 years of age) waiting for adoption.
During this holiday season, there’s an extra push to help them find homes. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, AdoptUSKids and the Ad Council recently unveiled a new series of public service advertisements (PSAs) designed to continue to encourage the adoption of children from foster care with an emphasis on the importance of keeping siblings together.
Check out this PSA video from the Ad Council:
Since the launch of the campaign in 2004, more than 22,000 children who were once photo-listed on the AdoptUSKids website are now with their adoptive families and over 35,000 families have registered to adopt through AdoptUSKids.
Many times, there are siblings also listed. Approximately 23% of children and youth actively photolisted on the AdoptUSKids website and waiting for placement in adoptive homes were registered with one or more siblings. Sibling relationships are often the longest-lasting relationships for children in foster care.
For more information about adoption, or about becoming an adoptive parent to a child from foster care, please visit www.AdoptUSKids.org or visit the campaign’s communities on Facebook and Twitter.

25 toys have been donated Richard
Great cause to support. I had no idea there were so many children in foster care awaiting adoption. It’s crazy to think over 400k children are not able to be with their families. So sad. Thanks for the info.
You’re welcome. Glad you found this information helpful Krista
I think it is really important for siblings to stay together if at all possible. They have already gone through alot without their mom and dad. This sounds like a great program
I agree Linda.
I love this! I cannot imagine what it feels like to feel unwanted and without a family! So many kids are out there needing people to love them and take care of them! What a great campaign to help these children and families find forever love and forever homes!
It is a great campaign Amber.
I would gladly adopt another child if I had the space.
Good to hear Laurie
This is a great PSA. If only everyone could adopt, that would be so great.
Thanks for stopping by Carmen
It is so wonderful that people adopt foster children who really need homes. I hope that more siblings can stay together.
That would be great Denise
i hope these kids will have a good life …
Me too Gilbert
It’s sad that there are so many children that need a home. I hear about surrogate parents and although I can understand the desire to have your own child, I wish that they’d consider adoption. I could go on but won’t. It’s a touchy subject for a lot of people.
My Aunt fostered then adopted I was always very proud of her for that It takes a good person to do it I wish it counted towards the toy if i shared
Thanks for your support! Sharing the message has its own benefit to the kids.
Thank you for promoting fostering! There are so many wonderful children looking for a stable home.
Happy to help Angela
I too support adoption from foster care. There are so many little ones that need a home. All they really want is a family. My daughter is foster 2 family member right now but she knows that there is no chance of her adopting them. The system wants them back with their Mother which could very well end in tragedy.
Oh Lisa, sorry to hear that.
this was such an aamzing thing to do, i always donate directly to kids in need in my community and i applaud you for this!
Awe, thanks Molli!
I sure hope everyone continue to encourage the adoption of children from foster care with an emphasis on the importance of keeping siblings together. TFS.
This year I was part of Share the Joy, in Iowa, who donated 700+ handmade cards for the kids in foster care. Next year it well be even bigger.
My daughter and her partner are fostering two little boys right now….I think that if it were to come to it they would adopt them. The fostering program is such an awesome thing. A very much needed program. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this, I think that more people need to learn about the foster program.
You’re welcome Anita!
I was adopted as a child, I never knew, my parents chose to not tell me. I found out when I was in my late 40’s. I agree, every child should be able to be in a loving home! I am thrilled when I see anyone supporting this great cause! Thank you!
You’re welcome Dee! Glad that this touched you.
i think this is so great when people do this….i have never had kids. thought abt it alot. i really admire people who foster kids as well as animals …not sure if i could ever let them go if i did….right now could not afford to do either though. i know when i was younger and some of my friends had problems, my parents let them stay at our house.
Sandy, It is a remarkable thing that these families do for children in need. I agree.
