This post is part of a partnership between myself, Bloggin’ Mamas & the Florida Prepaid College Board. All opinions expressed are my own.

This has to be one of the best contests you could enter. Unlike some prizes which fade in time, the education you could win for your child could last a lifetime.  The Florida Prepaid College Board is giving Ten Florida families the chance to win two free years of college from the Florida Prepaid College Foundation, which is launching its Florida Prepaid Scholarship Program. The annual scholarship program is running between September 19, 2017 and October 29, 2017 this year, which means you only have a few days left to enter.

As a college graduate myself, I can’t tell you enough how important it is for your children to seek higher education. Nowadays, the workplace is more competitive and even more individuals are obtaining degrees. Gone are the days where a High School diploma was enough to set yourself up with a long-term job. Technology is replacing manual labor at an even faster rate, so individuals need to learn the skills to master and invent this technology. A college education can help set-up your child with the tools they need to succeed and build their career.

The scholarship program coincides with National College Savings Month and the mid-October launch of Open Enrollment; the annual period when families can purchase Florida Prepaid Plans.  I encourage you to use the next days to enter the scholarship contest, and to learn about the benefits of saving early for college – from getting more motivated to prepare academically for college, to avoiding the burden of student loan debt. I want to help start conversations in households across the state about preparing academically and financially for college. Studies show that saving early can motivate students to prepare academically for college, and help them reduce or avoid student loan debt. I wish I had had this opportunity when I went to college. I am still sitting in almost $60K of student loan debt for degrees I pursued over 15 years ago. And saving early really is feasible, with a little planning and budget consideration. More and more students are starting to  save money and get a strong start by enrolling in a a Florida Prepaid College Savings Plan so they can attend one of the 28 participating colleges. Sixty-five percent of the state’s high school graduates are pursuing post-secondary education begin at a Florida college.

Florida Prepaid’s 2-Year Florida College Plan covers tuition and other specified fees for 60 lower division credit hours at a Florida College. This plan offers your child the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree or trade certification in any number of fields, and is an excellent springboard to a fulfilling career or further education. The 2-Year Florida College Plan is one of five available Florida Prepaid Plans, which all include tuition and other specified fees. A family can purchase Plans all at once, over five years or in monthly installments. Prepaid Plans are available for purchase during Open Enrollment, which began October 15, 2017 and ends February 28, 2018.
