It’s time for Spring, time for all things new! Of course our first impulse is to go out shopping, but this year, before we get that new Spring wardrobe, let’s do some Spring cleaning and help out our community too! Goodwill has come up with a fun and insightful little quiz called:
What’s Your Clothing Personality??
Really inspired now? It’s not hard to declutter when you’re focused and have a plan. Here’s a suggestion on how just 7 days can make that fresh start easier.
#7DaysofSpringCleaning Details:
Day 1) Clear your closet clutter
Day 2) Time to tackle the kitchen
Day 3) Spread holiday cheer (holiday decorations, center pieces, Halloween)
Day 4) Downsize your tech toys (used laptops)
Day 5) Clean out your office supplies
Day 6) Provide quality entertainment (unused movies, video games)
Day 7) Downsize your bookshelf
Then, calculate your donation impact. https://donate.goodwill.org/ and feel better about your efforts. You can also go to http://www.goodwill.org/locator/ which shows how your donation helps your community. You’ve done a wonderful job!! Now you can go and get yourself that new outfit to welcome Spring.
This has been part of the Donate Stuff. Create Jobs. It’s the tagline of Ad Council’scampaign with Goodwill®, which reminds people that their donations support people who are seeking to earn jobs and build careers. To see how the process works, just watch “How We Do It” PSA.
We clean out our closets every 6 months
Yeah, we try to do that too Diana. Otherwise, it gets clogged up. I love when everything is neat and organized.
We have done Day 1 and Day 2 on your list. My garage is full of things to go to Goodwill. It will take both of our family’s SUVs to get the stuff to Goodwill.
Wow, that’s a lot of stuff. I bet you were glad to get it out Tiffany.
I definitely need to listen to this, I have so much to do and I know I am going to need the help to do so.. thanks for all the great tips and soon I hope to start tackling my mess and getting organized for myself and for my family 😉 thanks @tisonlyme143
Good luck with your cleaning Dorothy!
We clean out pretty often, but I am sure there are parts of the house we forget about. I am a big supporter of Goodwill!
That’s great to hear about your support Amanda. I used to work with adults who were mentally ill, and I know that these organizations providing work really do help them feel more in control of their lives.
Normally I do the closets every 6 months, but I know I just did them in January had to do them this past weekend. My kids are growing like weeds and I had a ton (3 42 gallon contractor bags) full of clothes.
Whenever I clean out the closets I end up with so many clothes. Some even have tags because the kids grow so quick. I know what you mean Adrienne.
Great tips! We generally donate the kids’s clothes because they’re usually in great condition since they grow so fast, they don’t have much time to completely destroy them! LOL But I never thought about donating dvd or office supplies. I have a whole bunch of dvd that we don’t watch. Seriously, they’ve been packed away for more than a year just taking up storage space. No ones missed them! I’m going to have a giant car load to donate this spring! Thanks again for the tips.
Oh I really need to do this. I love donating also but then shopping there for some good bargains.
Candy, I think we all need to go through our stuff every now and then.
My wife and I have been very blessed in our lives. We have also lived tguorhh very tight times ( I. E., blood donations.) We have always felt the love if others. Many times, we picked up the bill for another at a resturant. Other times we paid for another’s groceries. Another time we put together a baby shower for a lady we never met who left an abusive home. Instead of money, we gave a man in the rain a sleeping bag, a coat, and accessories along with a gift card for a meal at Denny’s. When my wife ad I ran into financial issues, we were blessed by people who remained anonymous with a $500 gift card twice. We always asked why. We had a very hard time accepting. Why us? LovePay it forward It will come back when needed
Very good tips. I really need to clean out my bookshelf and office supplies. It’s getting really cluttered and I have such a small house. I’m a big fan of donating to Good Will.
We do it in segments in my house. We just cleaned out our closet the other day.
thanks for sharing, we must keep our surroundings clean !!
We can help others by allowing them to use items we are no longer using.
I love to donate to Goodwill, I actually am in the process of cleaning the closets in my guest room, (which is where anything I don’t know what to do with seems to end up, and I donated a bunch of craft supplies and looms to my neighborhood elementary school, I can only do so much at a time, and it takes me a lot longer than one week, but I tend to get side tracked and will be working on more than one area at a time. Thank you for sharing your ideas and list, I am going to try to do this better.
I love this idea! I donate to Goodwill regularly – the problem is I usually go in and shop after haha!
You can find great deals in there.
I do a lot o cleaning out but usually give to either friends or family who can use, or Salvation Army i heard Goodwil was charging too much for given donations, Is this true?
Hi Virginia, Goodwill channels 82% of its revenue directly into its programs and services.
great tips:). we have a rule that each time something new comes in, something old must come out to sell , donate or give away. It keeps our closets manageable
Angie, that is a great idea! Sometimes we do that too in my house.
Cleaning out the closet is a yearly routine for me. I do it at the same time I spring clean. We always make 3 boxes, one to donate, one to throw away and another to pass on to friends and/or family.
Jill, I tend to do 3 piles myself.
These are awesome suggestions! I don’t really have to clean out my closet that much as all I do is hang clothes up in it. However, my nursery closet (baby is not here yet) is jam packed so I will be cleaning that out!
Those are all good tips. I always put it off. When I clean a closet (I’m a closet slob) it literally takes a full day. And, I am always surprised because I find things that I forgot I had. It’s like I just went shopping. Yes, my closets are that cluttered.
Wow Heather! Thanks for this brilliant idea on how to turn spring cleaning into a charitable act. I’ll definitely implement this schedule next Spring.
